Social Media Campaign:
Musicians in Five Facts
Creating these social media posts was an exercise in accessibility as it pertains to graphic designers. Each post should be able to be viewed and read by those with dyslexia, low vision, color blindness, or blindness. The three sets of posts will belong together and be cohesive. Each set will have a specific topic that is enhanced by the varying layouts and text that is engaging. To ensure the posts are accessible to everyone, font and color choice must be planned. I used a website to help choose a color palette that works well with both types of color blindness. I checked my font choices by looking at common combinations that can be difficult for those with dyslexia or low vision to read. Once a set of posts was designed, I was able to use a proofing feature in Photoshop and Illustrator to ensure the color contrast was still high enough for the color blind to be able to see.
I asked my teenager what he thinks we have in common. His answer was Janis Joplin, Elliott Smith, and Fiona Apple. So, I decided each musician would be represented by a set and I would try to make them interesting to any viewer.
I believe access to online content should be viewable by everyone. However, I never really set aside the time to make sure what I put out is. Learning about resources and tools to guide me in the process was helpful. Having the requirement of each layout being unique pushed me to find solutions that I would have not reached otherwise.
While I did not lay out a grid to follow for each post, I was conscious of placement and found I wanted to push the idea of the same design elements being rearranged to create a variety of different layouts. I made efforts to utilize visual hierarchy to guide the viewer. However, I really struggle with knowing when a font size is too big, and I think this is due to my own accessibility issues. I have cataracts that make it hard for me to see small type. I have noticed that I often get the note that my font size is too big. I hope I did not overcompensate.
